About “Talk About It! and the Animal No Kill 2012 Goal
In 2006, following a public outcry over the number of animals euthanized and the methods used to euthanize them, the City of San Antonio committed to transforming San Antonio into a No Kill community for companion animals.
No Kill means healthy, treatable dogs and cats that end up in shelters are not killed simply because there is no space.
The San Antonio Area Foundation partners with the City and invests resources in No Kill efforts underway in the community.
The plan calls for the No Kill goal to be realized by 2012.
I’m interested in finding out who is responsible for the overtly racist commercial being played in the airwaves of San Antonio. As a Mexican American / Chicana born and raised in San Antonio, I am thoroughly offended by manner in which my culture is portrayed as ignorant, thick accented “Mexicans” who are to blame for the animal overpopulation problem. Although I agree that this is a very important issue that needs citywide attention, this attempt to bring awareness to this issue through racial stereotypes is not the way this message should be disseminated. I will be submitting a formal letter of complaint to the organization responsible for this commercial. I would encourage others to do the same.
